Relatives of assassinated Omaev doubt he could attack law enforcers

Alexei Omaev, who was shot dead by law enforcers in Kaspiysk, could not attack policemen as he was partially paralyzed, his relatives told the "Caucasian Knot".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 15, policemen reported that in Kaspiysk, a man opened fire at policemen, when they asked him to show his documents; he was killed by return fire. He was pre-identified as Alexei Omaev (Amaev), a 46-year-old resident of Kaspiysk, a law enforcement source has reported.

According to his brother, the 45-year-old Alexei Omaev was a Category 2 invalid and moved with difficulty, as he "was half-paralyzed."

"10 years ago, he was stabbed; and the left half of his body was paralyzed; he could barely move and couldn't walk normally; his one arm doesn't work. It's absolutely impossible for him to hold a firearm; anyone who knew him can confirm it," one of Omaev's relatives told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Relatives also told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that Omaev "was a believer and he visited the Tangyim Salafi mosque in Makhachkala located in Hungarian Warriors Street." "Our relatives have no idea what he could be killed for, if not for his religious beliefs; but he never got anywhere; he lived a peaceful life and was engaged in his family," Alexei's relative told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
