Person charged with smuggling "Igla" MANPADS extradited to Armenia
On December 25, Georgian law enforcers handed over Robert Agvanyan, wanted in Armenia for importing an "Igla" (Needle) man-portable air-defence system (MANPADS), to Armenia, the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Armenia has stated.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that within the same case, on November 28, a court in Yerevan sentenced Samvel Babayan, a former Minister of Defence of Nagorno-Karabakh, to six years in prison.
On March 22, the National Security Service of Armenia announced detention of two persons, who were found keeping the "Igla" MANPADS. Investigators found that Samvel Babayan was involved in importing it. The opposition and Babayan himself treated his arrest as politically motivated.
