Authorities evict Shali residents from Kadyrov Street

Demolition of houses in Shali is needed to expand the territory around the high-rise complex, the authorities have explained. People have to live with their relatives in anticipation of the promised new housing, locals complain.

On December 11, they began demolishing several tens of private and multi-apartment buildings in central Shali in Akhmat Kadyrov and Ivanovskaya Streets, as well as other buildings near the skyscraper complex "Shali-City", which is under construction, and the Ramzan Kadyrov mosque.

The construction of the above mosque began in December 2012. The decision to build it "was made after believers' numerous appeals," the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of Chechnya has explained.

It is planned within two weeks to completely clear the area around the skyscraper complex and the mosque, an official from the Shali administration told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"The owners of the private houses and apartments to be demolished will get new housing or monetary compensations as they choose," the official has assured.

The construction of the high-rise complex was launched in Shali in 2014. It includes six buildings ranging in height from 12 to 16 floors and a hotel complex.

A local resident said that nobody asked people's opinion about the reconstruction of the city centre.

Let us remind you that in May they also launched a large-scale reconstruction of the dwelling settlement of Novogrozny (Oiskhar), Gudermes District. They build a mosque for 5000 people, a sports complex, a hospital and several apartment buildings. Builders erected new housing within a record 11 days, but tenants were afraid to move into new apartments, suggesting that such superfast construction could not do without technological violations.
