Law to struggle family violence adopted in Armenia

At a meeting of the Armenian Parliament, 75 out of 95 MPs voted for adoption of the law to struggle family violence.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 9, the Parliament held public hearings of the bill to struggle family violence in Armenia. The Coalition to Stop Violence against Women demanded to eliminate from the bill the wording on strengthening of the traditional values.

The title of the bill and its wording were changed after the stormy criticism from opponents, the Armenian Parliament reported. In 2013, the bill "On Gender Equality" was also amended, which was ultimately entitled "On Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women," Zaruhi Ovannisyan emphasized.

Vigen Kocharyan, Armenian Deputy Minister of Justice, has emphasized that the bill does not provide for the deprivation of parental rights and contains no provisions "destroying the family values."
