Armenia and EU sign expanded partnership agreement

On November 24, at the summit of the European Union's Eastern Partnership programme, Armenia and the European Union (EU) have signed an agreement on comprehensive and expanded partnership, initialled in March 2017. The signing ceremony was broadcast live on the "Azatutyun" Radio, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The agreement was signed by Edward Nalbandyan, the Armenian Foreign Minister, and Federica Mogherini, the EU's High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in the presence of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and the Chairman of the European Council Donald Tusk.

The agreement presupposes close cooperation in the spheres of transport, energy, migration, businesses, investments and trade, Ms Mogherini stated after the signing. She drew attention to the fact that the EU had for the first time signed an agreement on comprehensive partnership with a member state of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). "It is important that Armenia and the EU take efficient steps to implement the agreement," she said, adding that the EU will constantly monitor the implementation of the agreement.
