Azerbaijani opposition activist Alikram Khurshudov accused of hooliganism

Law enforcers have accused Alikram Khurshudov, the leader for the Shirvan branch of the "Musavat" Party, of attacking a local resident and a policeman. The opposition activist pleaded not guilty. This has been reported today by his advocate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 22, Alikram Khurshudov, the leader for the branch of the "Musavat" Party, was detained in Shirvan. Elman Fattakh, the deputy party chairman of the "Musavat" Party, has suggested that Alikram Khurshudov "is being prosecuted for his political activity and sharp critical posts on the Facebook."

Nemat Kerimli, an advocate of Alikram Khurshudov, has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that until today, he was not admitted to his client at the Shirvan police department.

According to law enforcers, on November 22, Alikram Khurshudov was engaged in repair works in a house, and in the evening, the owner of the house accused him of harassing his wife, Nemat Kerimli said. "Alikram Khurshudov ... protested [against] such slander. Later, two other persons appeared in the house who used physical pressure against Alikram Khurshudov. Then, a policeman arrived, and Alikram Khurshudov was taken to a police station. According to the police, the detainee inflicted bodily injuries to the owner of the house and the policeman. In fact, it was Alikram Khurshudov himself who suffered," stated the advocate.

He has clarified that he treats the charges as unfounded. "Alikram Khurshudov could not exert physical pressure on four men, including a policeman ... My client pleads not guilty," said Nemat Kerimli.
