Stepanakert: journalists trained to work in military conflict zone

Journalists of Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) should be ready to cover military conflicts, said Goar Airapetyan, President of the "Champord" Foundation. Many journalists are unaware of how to work in the war zone, David Alaverdyan, the Dean of the Journalism Department of the Yerevan State University (YSU), believes. Participation in such seminars is important for media professionals, Veanush Osipyan and Erik Akopyan, NKR journalists, have stated.

On November 17-19, the city of Stepanakert hosted the third seminar for young journalists "Journalist as an objectivity pillar in online and offline war situation", organized by the "Champord" (Traveller) Armenian Foundation. It was attended by 29 journalists from Armenia and NKR.

The "Champord" Foundation was set up by Ariana Kaoili, the wife of the famous Armenian chess player Levon Aronyan, for the development of independent journalism in Armenia, the "News-Armenia" reports.

Participation in such a seminar is very important for a journalist working in the conflict zone, said Veanush Osipyan, a journalist of the "Artsakhpress" News Agency of the NKR.

Erik Akopyan, his colleague from the "Artsakhtimes" NKR's Internet TV Company, has noted that "the April 2016 war in the Karabakh conflict zone" became the driving force that not only forced to pay attention to the increasing of the army's technical level, but also made media professionals to improve their skills."
