Man accused of blowing Chechen policeman up extradited from Germany

Today, a native of Chechnya, whose was hiding under a false name abroad after an assassination attempt on a policeman, has been brought to Russia from Frankfurt am Main, Irina Volk, the spokeswoman of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has reported.

The 35-year-old native of Chechnya was accused of encroaching on a law enforcer's life and illegal storage of ammunition. Investigators believe that he blew up an improvised explosive device (IED) on the railway and wounded a policeman.

The man had been put on the international wanted list at the request of the Chechen MIA, and in November 2016 he was detained in Germany. Today, employees of the national Interpol bureau and FSIN (Russian Federal Penitentiary Service) brought him to Russia, Ms Volk has explained.

The MIA has given no details about the attempt on the policeman. "In the Grozny-Zakan-Yurt railway section, an IED explosion seriously wounded an employee of the police cynological unit," the Russian MIA's website has reported today.
