Azerbaijani journalist Guseinli released in Ukraine

Today, the court has released the journalist Fikret Guseinli, arrested in Ukraine at the request of Azerbaijan, on bail, said People's Deputy Nikolai Knyazhitsky.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 14, Fikret Guseinli, who had received political asylum and citizenship in the Netherlands, was detained at the Kiev Airport. The border guards explained the journalist that Azerbaijani law enforcers had declared him wanted within the Interpol system on charges of a fraud and illegal crossing the border. The journalist rejected the accusations. On October 17, the court arrested him for 18 days.

Today, the court has released Fikret Guseinli (Guseinov) on bail of People's Deputy Nikolai Knyazhitsky and Boris Zakharov, the director of the Advocates' Centre in the Ukrainian Helsinki Union for Human Rights, the "Interfax-Ukraine" reports.

"Just now, the court has handed over to me and Boris Zakharov on bail the Azerbaijani journalist Fikrat (this version of his name was pointed out by the Deputy, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") Guseinov, whose extradition was opposed by the Freedom House, the Helsinki Human Rights Union, the Netherlands Embassy, and other human rights organizations," Mr Knyazhitsky wrote in his Facebook page.
