Igor Nagavkin's hunger strike fails to convince court to consider complaint against prosecutor

On September 11, the Cheryomushki Court of Moscow dismissed the complaint filed by Igor Nagavkin. This has been reported today by Farit Murtazin, an advocate of the rights defender.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Court scheduled for September 11 the consideration of Nagavkin's complaint against public prosecutor, to whom the rights defender unsuccessfully complained about the investigator's inaction in his case.

On October 2, 2016, Igor Nagavkin was taken into custody on suspicion of theft. The rights defender pleads not guilty. On August 8, Igor Nagavkin declared indefinite hunger strike in the Butyrka SIZO.

"At trial, officials from the Prosecutor's Office have stated that they never received Igor Nagavkin's complaint, since the Russian post failed to deliver it. So, the Court refused to consider the complaint about the inaction of the Prosecutor's Office," Farit Murtazin told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"We need now to re-file the complaint. And given the delivery and the time for consideration, it will take at least a month," complained the advocate.

According to him, Igor Nagavkin continues his hunger strike. "He continues his hunger strike, but he accepts water. By now, Igor Nagavkin has lost 18 kg," noted Farit Murtazin.
