Nagavkin is hunger-striking at SIZO for eighth day

According to Igor Nagavkin, a rights defender, he has been holding his unlimited hunger strike since August 8. Igor told his advocate Farit Murtazin about hunger strike before the beginning of the court session on the issue of extending Nagavkin’s custody, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 2, 2016, Nagavkin was placed in custody on suspicion of an attempt to steal a police car tire. The rights defender refuses to plead guilty.

According to his version, his hunger strike was reported to the administration of the SIZO (pre-trial prison) “Butyrska”, where he is kept. Mr Nagavkin has stressed that he "rejects meals and takes only tea."

He demands a meeting with officials of the Prosecutor's Office and the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF). Igor Nagavkin has also stated that he is persecuted for his human rights activities, and treated the investigators’ actions as unjustified.
