Petro Poroshenko expresses support for Georgia at South-Ossetian border

During his visit to the villages located at the border with South Ossetia, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has announced the support of the Georgia's territorial integrity.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening on July 17, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko arrived to Georgia with his first official visit. It was planned that during his visit to Georgia, Petro Poroshenko "will travel to the regions of Mestia and Shida Kartli to inspect the section of the administrative border with South Ossetia moved into the territory of Georgia."

On July 4, the State Security Service (SSS) of Georgia accused South Ossetia of relocating the banner designating the border. About 10 hectares of land were lost, said the residents of the Georgian village of Bershuti. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) refuted these statements.

Today, as a part of his visit to Georgia, Petro Poroshenko together with his Georgian counterpart Giorgi Margvelashvili has arrived to the village of Khurvaleti on the border with South Ossetia.

"It is very important that we are here now. This is not a line of contact. This is not even a line of occupation. This is a gap between the past and the future ... Russia should take steps to contribute to the de-occupation of the Ukrainian and Georgian territories," said Petro Poroshenko as quoted by the message posted on the President of Ukraine's website.

In his turn, the Georgian President has noted that "the Georgian authorities motivate people from the occupied territories to visit free Georgia, where the standard of living is much higher," states the report.
