Volgograd house collapse is eighth since 2011

For almost six and a half years, Volgograd saw eight collapses of apartment houses. Three of them were results of gas explosions. In total, as a result of these accidents, since January 2011, 12 persons were killed and 26 others were injured.

On June 13, a part of the roof collapsed over the stairwell of apartment house No. 44 in Panfyorov Street. According to the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE), tenants did not suffer, and their apartments were not damaged. In total, there were 44 tenants in the house. According to the Mayoralty, 15 people were placed into a temporary accommodation centre (TAC). Back in 2016, the house itself was recognized as an emergency one.

Earlier, on May 16, in the Sovietsky District of the city, after a gas explosion, a section of a four-storey building collapsed in University Avenue; four people died, and 11 were hospitalized.

On January 7, two men were injured as a result of a balcony collapse at No. 13 in Mira Street. After that, tenants were warned about the danger of using balconies.

Similar incidents occurred in the city in June 2015, in November and February 2012, and in January 2011.
