Dagestani woman demands compensation of 1.25 million roubles for her property lost during CTO

Today, Aminat Soupyanova, a resident of the Dagestani village of Vremenny, has filed a lawsuit to the Tverskoi District Court of Moscow against the Russian Ministry of Finance demanding compensation for damage caused during the counterterrorist operation (CTO) carried out in 2014. This was reported by the press release of the Human Rights Centre "Memorial" received by the "Caucasian Knot".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 18, 2014, residents of the village of Vremenny, which geographically was a part of the village of Gimry, reported that law enforcers cordoned off the village and searched their houses. Later, the Vremenny villagers also reported on shortage of food and destruction of domestic buildings by law enforcers. The villagers also complained that a school and a kindergarten were closed. On October 8, almost all civilians left the village of Vremenny. On November 26, it was reported that the counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime in the Untsukul District was lifted.

According to the human rights defenders' report, the commission for valuation of lost property, which members visited the village of Vremenny in December 2014, indicated that the property of Aminat Soupyanova had been lost completely and that the due financial assistance amounted to 700,000 roubles.

However, no compensation has been paid to the resident of Vremenny, and the Aminat Soupyanova's family members arranged repair of the housing at their own expense, reported the Human Rights Centre.

The "Memorial" has also announced the intention to demand compensation for damage also with regard to other victims, who decided to appeal to courts, since, according to the human rights defenders' information, till present, none of the residents of Vremenny has received compensation for the lost property and housing.
