"Apricot Country" demands to nullify elections to Yerevan Elders' Board

The "Apricot Country" Party has turned to the Central Election Commission (CEC) with a demand to invalidate the elections to the Board of Elders.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 14, the voting at the elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan was held in the Armenian capital. The elections involved three political forces, including the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), the "Apricot Country" Party and the "Elk" bloc, from which 308 candidates were registered. Five parties and blocs announced a boycott of the elections.

In its official statement-complaint addressed to Tigran Mukuchyan, Chair of the Armenian CEC, the party asserts that during the elections to the Board of Elders, held on May 14, large-scale widespread falsifications were fixed. They were undertaken by policemen and the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the office of the "Apricot Country" Party.

A party activist said that they are ready to provide the CEC with all the facts and materials on these violations.

In its turn, the "Elk" bloc, has submitted its application to the CEC with a demand to recount the votes cast at polling stations Nos. 7/51 and 7/53, Vahagn Ovakimyan, the spokesman of the bloc told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Ani Samsonyan, elected to the Yerevan Board of Elders from the "Elk" bloc, believes that "it is unlikely that the vote recount at these two polling stations may change the outcomes," but the bloc, as she said, seeks to defend every vote of its electorate.
