In Chechnya, 60 children undergo free surgeries under charity action

In Grozny, under the action "Operation Smile", plastic surgeons from Russia, the United States, and Great Britain operated for free 60 children with maxillofacial pathologies. This has been reported by the Chechen Ministry for Public Health.

A group of 25 specialists in the field of plastic surgery arrived in Chechnya to provide medical assistance to children suffering from maxillofacial pathologies. Together with the children from Chechnya, patients from Ingushetia, North Ossetia, Dagestan, and Kabardino-Balkaria also got medical assistance under the charity action "Operation Smile". The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by an official from the Chechen Ministry for Public Health that consultations and surgeries were conducted free of charge.

According to the Chechen Ministry for Public Health, first of all, medical assistance was rendered to those children with maxillofacial pathologies who had not undergone surgeries earlier, to orphans and to children from low-income families.

For the first time, the charity action "Operation Smile" was held in Chechnya in September 2008. The charity action was organized by Khasan Baiev, a Chechen plastic surgeon, who lived in the USA and who operated such well-known Chechen field commanders as Salman Raduev and Shamil Basaev.
