More than 10,000 people take part in action "Immortal Regiment" in Grozny

Residents of the capital of Chechnya have reported about unprecedented security measures and compulsion to take part in the march of the action "Immortal Regiment".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 9, the regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) held festive events in honour of the Victory Day. Meanwhile, the most massive events were held within the action "Immortal Regiment".

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Chechnya, this year, more than 10,000 people have taken part in the march in Grozny, that is, "twice as much as in 2016".

The participants of the march claim that "not everyone came to the action voluntarily."

"We were warned in advance that we would have to come to the university on May 9. There we were given posters, flags, and photos of fighters of World War II, and we went to Putin Avenue. After the march had been over, we handed over the portraits and all the other items and left the place," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Alikhan, a student of the university of Grozny.

"All those demonstrations, rallies and other events have been formalized at our place. And the same thing happened with the march of the action 'Immortal Regiment'. An instruction came 'from above' to send a certain number of people, and we sent them. The Victory Day is certainly a great holiday. However, a lot of people forget that natives of Chechnya, Ingushetia, and representatives of some other peoples celebrated the day of May 9, 1945 in exile, as enemies of the people. None of the officials has ever noted or notes that," emphasized Lechi, an employee of the educational institution in Grozny.
