Fourth oppositionist sacked after rally in Baku

Jalil Imanov, a teacher of a rural school, is the fourth activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), dismissed from his job within the last 10 days. An official from the district department of education has explained Imanov's dismissal by the fact that he had been wrongly put on the school staff.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in late April two teachers and one employee of a private enterprise, all of them being PFPA activists, were fired after they took part in the opposition rally in Baku.

On April 8, Baku hosted a large rally under the slogan: "No to robbery, no to lies, no to monarchy!" Its participants opposed the appointment of President's wife Mekhriban Alieva to the post of Vice-Premier, called for European integration, and demanded to release political prisoners.

Jalil Imanov said that on May 1, he was dismissed from the position of a teacher of history of the Ishkeder Village School of the Masalli District. He finds the reason for his dismissal to be "far-fetched".

"He [Imanov] violated the discipline, failed to perform his duties of a class teacher; everything is written in the order. When he gets the order, he'll know the reasons of his dismissal," said the spokesman of the Masalli District Department of Education.
