Sochi Mayoralty refuses to legitimate Easter action of Navalny’s supporters

The application of supporters of the oppositionist Alexei Navalny on holding an anti-corruption action on April 16, on the Easter, was rejected under the pretext that the organizer responded too late to the Mayoralty's proposal on the time of the action. However, activists still want to hold the action, said Suren Edigarov, the applicant.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Sochi activists had supported the all-Russian anti-corruption action on March 26, organized after the Alexei Navalny’s "Anti-Corruption Fund" released its investigation "He's not Dimon for you". On that day, the Sochi Mayoralty refused to sanction the action; and some of its participants were detained.

The supporters of Alexei Navalny in Sochi have received the Mayoralty's refusal to sanction the Easter action today, Suren Edigarov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Among the reasons indicated by the Mayoralty is the alleged fact that the organizer was late to give his consent to the suggested time of the event – from 7 to 10; but such consent is not required," Mr Edigarov has stressed.

On the advice of his lawyer, Edigarov filed a second application, reading: "Despite the fact that no organizer’s consent to the place and time of the event is needed, I hereby inform that the rally will be held on April 16, at 8-10 a.m. in the Park ‘50 Years of Victory’ in Khosta with the number of participants of up to 90 persons."

The Mayoralty treats the initiative of Navalny’s supporters as "an illegal action," as Tatiana Katanidi, the head for interaction with public associations of the Sochi Mayoralty, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
