Sochi activist states no reasons for his arrest

Aleksei Shtaba, a resident of Sochi, arrested on March 26, the day of anti-corruption rallies, claims that he was sentenced to seven days for organizing two actions, which he had nothing to do with. He filed to the Territorial Court a complaint against the district policeman officer and the judge.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 26, Sochi, as well as in many other Russian cities, hosted actions against corruption, organized after the publication of the investigation conducted by the "Anti-Corruption Foundation" of Alexei Navalny about the Russian Premier Dmitry Medvedev. Seven persons were detained at the action in Sochi.

Alexei Shtaba, a doctor and an activist, was summoned to the Tsentralny District Court of Sochi on March 26, prior to his participation in the action. According to his story, he came to court, not expecting that he would be arrested.

"The judge took as a basis the protocol of unproved actions of ‘disseminating’ some information drawn up a month and two months ago," said Alexei Shtaba.

Back at large, Alexei Shtaba has challenged his arrest to the higher court.
