In Sochi, participants of rally demand from authorities to pay attention to ecological problems

On March 25, in Sochi, the sanctioned rally of supporters of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), which gathered more than 200 local residents and guests of the city, was held in front of the monument to Vladimir Lenin in Kurortny Prospekt. Igor Vasiliev, the organizer of the rally, the head of the local branch of the Communist Party, announced to the audience that the topic of the rally was corruption of the authorities. Besides, at the rally, speakers also voiced the ecological problems of the resort city, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

"In 2017, declared in Russia the year of ecology, the resort city of Sochi is on the edge of the garbage, ecological and epidemiological catastrophe," stated Elena Dzaganiya, a participant of the rally.

According to Elena Dzaganiya, the authorities do not fight with unauthorized dumps, and for that reason she had to organize a collection of signatures against pollution of Sochi. Many of the people who came to the rally left their signatures under the appeal.

The topic of ecology was also supported by Iren Ilyenkova, the leader of the "Yabloko" Party in Sochi. She drew attention to the "danger to life and health of residents and guests of the resort city."

According to Iren Ilyenkova, every evening, in the centre of the city, people can smell unpleasant odours because of unfinished sewage treatment plants and unorganized garbage disposal, and some tourists spend their vacations on hospital beds with intestinal infections instead of beaches and sanatoria.
