Stavropol: 21 people enrolled to study Circassian language

Among the visitors of the courses in Stavropol there are 15 children, for whom, according to organizers, studying the Circassian language is free of charge. The announcement of the opening of the courses arrived at the SMS-service of the "Caucasian Knot" on March 15.

About 2500 Circassians live in Stavropol; among them, there are many young parents who want their children to learn their mother tongue. The Circassian Cultural Centre "Adygs" organized the above courses at the City House of Friendship, said Yuri Shebzukhov, the head of the "Adygs" Centre.

According to his story, classes are held twice a week, the first one was held on March 13.

The children group has already been recruited; the adult one will be formed soon, Mr Shebzukhov has added.

The issue of opening courses for studying the Circassian language has been considered for a long time, Vitaly Vasyanin, the head of the House of Friendship, has noted. According to his story, people who grew up outside their historical homeland complained that they do not understand their older relatives and stated that they would like to read literature in their mother tongue.

Mr Vasyanin has added that the courses are attended by Circassians, Kabardians, and Adygs; there is also an ethnic Russian student girl, who wants to learn the language.
