South-Ossetian SC dismisses complaint filed by Eduard Kokoity

The Supreme Court (SC) of South Ossetia has upheld the decision of the Central Election Commission (CEC) to refuse to register Eduard Kokoity as a candidate for the presidential election.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, in Tskhinvali, about 250 supporters of Eduard Kokoity gathered in front of the building of the Supreme Court, which considered a complaint filed against the decision of the CEC to reject registration of the former leader of the republic as a candidate for the presidential election.

The hearing of the Supreme Council lasted more than eight hours. Eduard Kokoity said he did not agree with the SC's decision and called it a "political decision."

Let us remind you that in South Ossetia, the presidential election is scheduled for April 9. According to the CEC, Eduard Kokoity did not permanently reside in South Ossetia during the past five years, provided false information about his property, and did not submit any documents confirming his membership in the party and absence of his criminal records.
