In Baku, GPO questions "ReAl" member after his meeting with Iranian diplomats

On January 28, Azer Gasymly, a member of the Board of the movement "Republican Alternative" (ReAl), was summoned to the Investigating Department for Serious Crimes of the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Azerbaijan. There, he was questioned during five hours. Azer Gasymly himself has treated the questioning as illegal and called it "execution of a political order."

"Investigators were interested in information concerning the visit to the ReAl's office of Mekhti Arifzade, the second secretary of the Iran Embassy. I told the investigators that it was not a secret meeting. Earlier, we had such meetings with staff members of the Embassies of the USA, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, and other countries. There is nothing unusual in such meetings. It is nonsense to find something riotous in such meetings. We treat the investigation as an illegal step and execution of a political order, pursuing the goal to put pressure on the movement 'ReAl' and Ilgar Mamedov, the leader of the movement, kept in custody," said Azer Gasymly in his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to Azer Gasymly, on January 30, Natiq Jafarli, the executive secretary of the movement "ReAl", was also summoned for questioning.
