Sochi: memorial to victims of Tu-154 crash removed from Southern Jetty
At night on January 7, the temporary memorial, created of flowers, wreaths and candles in memory of the victims of the aircraft crash near Sochi was removed by the staff of the "Mayak" Beach and workers engaged in paving the seafront promenade. People continue bringing flowers to the site of the memorial and throw them into the sea.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 25, 2016, the aircraft of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) with 92 passengers on board crashed down into the Black Sea near Sochi. On the edge of the Southern Jetty, Sochi residents created an improvised memorial to the victims, formed of flowers and candles. The workers, who are replacing the paving on the seafront promenade failed to complete the work by December 31, making it more difficult for people to approach the memorial.
"Currently, it's no longer possible to lay flowers on the Southern Jetty," a worker, who introduced himself as Akhmat, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "The memorial has existed for more than ten days. People continue bringing flowers, but now they throw them into the sea. Tiles are brought to the jetty to pave the territory."
Today, visitors of the Southern Jetty, who came to the memorial and did not see it, said that Sochi should erect a permanent memorial to the victims of the air crash.
