Safarov transferred from SIZO to colony

Rufat Safarov, a former investigator, convicted for bribe-taking, has been transferred from SIZO (pre-trial prison) to Colony No. 9 inAzerbaijan. There is no more threat to his safety, his advocate said.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 8, 2016, Rufat Safarov, a former investigator of the Zerdab District Prosecutor's Office, was sentenced to 9 years in prison on charges of a repeated bribe-taking. Safarov himself refused to admit his guilt, stating the political nature of his case. On December 22, 2016, the Shirvan Court of Appeal upheld the verdict. On January 5, Safarov's father Eldar Sabiroglu expressed his concern about his son's cellmate-recidivist at the Baku SIZO-1. According to the father, the son had told him that the recidivist was provoking him into a conflict.

In the morning on January 6, Safarov's advocate Bekhruz Bairamov visited him at the SIZO and stated that "keeping the former investigator with a recidivist is illegal." "This is contrary to the Code of Execution of Sentences and the Instruction of the Penitentiary Service. It's illegal to keep former law enforcers in one cell with people, who had committed grave crimes, moreover – repeatedly," he said.

Later, the advocate said that on the same day, on January 6, he was officially notified that Safarov had been transferred to Colony No. 9.

Lawyers have noted that it is practically impossible to hold the scammers accountable for the fact that they had sold stolen property, posing themselves as fighters of the "Akhmat" Chechen special unit.
