In Chechnya, Court dismisses Stanislav Klykh's appeal against verdict in case of insulting public prosecutor

The Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya has upheld the decision of the first-instance court, which had sentenced Stanislav Klykh, a citizen of Ukraine, to a month of corrective labour for insulting the public prosecutor.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 26, 2016, the SC found the Ukrainian citizens Nikolai Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh guilty of involvement in the first Chechen military campaign on the side of militants and sentenced them to 22.5 and 20 years of imprisonment, respectively. On October 26, the Supreme Court of Russia pronounced the decision to dismiss the appeal. During the trial, the Court decided to submit the materials to institute against Stanislav Klykh a criminal case of insulting of the public prosecutor during the trial. Stanislav Klykh pleaded not guilty. On November 24, the Zavodskoi District Court of Grozny sentenced Stanislav Klykh to 240 hours of compulsory labour, replaced by one month of imprisonment. The defence filed an appeal against the sentence.

When upholding the verdict in the second case against Stanislav Klykh, the Court has also dismissed the defence's motion to conduct a psychiatric examination, the "Mediazona" reports.

The Court's decision came into force on December 29, the "OVDinfo" reports.
