Darya Polyudova asks court to commute her sentence

Darya Polyudova, an opposition activist, who is serving her sentence in a settlement-colony in Novorossiysk on the charge of extremism, has appealed to the court with a request to change her sentence. Darya Polyudova asks to replace the remaining sentence with restraint of liberty.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in December 2015, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Krasnodar found Darya Polyudova guilty of public calls for separatism and extremism and sentenced her to two years of imprisonment in a settlement-colony. On April 20, Darya Polyudova reported that she went to serve her sentence at the settlement-colony. In October, it was reported that the activist filed a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

Darya Polyudova in August 2014 was one of the organizers of the action "March for Federalization of Kuban", directed against Russia's policy towards Ukraine; however, the action never took place. The activist is accused of public calls to separatism and extremism; however, she refuses to plead guilty.

On November 29, the activist called her family members from the settlement-colony and informed them that she appealed to the court with a request to replace her sentence with restraint of liberty, reports Darya Polyudova on her Facebook page.

According to the report, the activist complains about the conditions of detention in the settlement-colony. "She says it is very cold in the room, and she had to have her boots on," notes the report.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Darya Polyudova is included in the list of political prisoners prepared by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".
