Advocate challenges judge chairing trial in Zhalaudi Geriev's case

During the consideration of the appeal against the verdict to Zhalaudi Geriev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, at the Supreme Court (SC) of the Chechen Republic, advocate Ermolaeva has reported that Dmitry Gorbovtsov, who chairs the trial, claims to the post of the Deputy Chairman of the Chechen SC. To succeed, he is to uphold the verdict of guilty to Zhalaudi Geriev. In this regard, Alaudi Musaev, another advocate of Zhalaudi Geriev, has filed a motion for disqualification of the judge to be considered on November 22.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 15, the Chechen SC started the consideration of the appeal against the verdict to Zhalaudi Geriev pronounced by the Shali District Court. On the same day, the defence of the journalist complained about violations committed during the investigation and the illegality of the sentence.

Advocate Ermolaeva has noted that she got a letter to her e-mail box from an unknown person. She has learned from the letter that Dmitry Gorbovtsov claims to the post of the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court (SC) of the Chechen Republic and to succeed he is to get a positive response from the Prosecutor of the Chechen Republic.

To ensure the above, "the applicant should 'push through' some ordered cases, including the case against Zhalaudi Geriev."
