Wife of journalist Khazy reports deterioration of his health in colony

The Azerbaijani journalist Seimur Khazy, who is serving his term in colony, needs medical care at hospital, but colony bosses refuse to transfer him to the prison hospital, said Seimur's wife. The Penitentiary Service refused to comment on the situation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 29, 2015, Seimur Khazy, an observer of the newspaper "Azadlyg" (Freedom), was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of beating up a certain Magerram Gasanov in 2014.

Nigyar Khazy, Seimur's wife, said that he suffers from rheumatism; and the disease has aggravated recently.

According to her story, a convict has the right to receive duly skilled medical care. However, she believes that authorities would not sanction his transfer to the prison hospital.

Let us remind you that Azerbaijani civil society activists have put Seimur Khazy on the list of political prisoners.
