HRC members meet natives of Chechnya, who complained about beatings at IK-7
The natives of Chechnya Anzor Mamaev and Khazbulat Gabzaev, kept in Colony No. 7 in the town of Segezh, have been questioned about the use of violence to them, said the rights defenders, who checked the complaint of the convict Ildar Dadin about torture and beatings.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Anzor Mamaev, according to rights defenders, has been actively cooperated with them after the death in the Chelyabinsk colony of the 39-year-old Sultan Israilov, a native of Chechnya. According to the official version, Israilov had committed suicide, but his family and rights defenders had doubts.
On November 1, Anastasia Zotova, the wife of Ildar Dadin, the Russia's first convict for repeated violations of the order of holding public events, said that in the colony her husband was subjected to beatings and torture, the "Interfax" reports.
On November 4, the human rights portal "Gulagu.net" reported the ill-treatment of two other inmates of the Segezh colony – Anzor Mamaev and Khazbulat Gabzaev.
The members of the Human Rights Council (HRC), who visited Colony No. 7, "got convinced that Dadin's complaints were justified", said Igor Kalyapin, the head of the organization "Committee for the Prevention of Torture".
"Anzor Mamaev, Khazbulat Gabzaev, Zelimkhan Geliskhanov and a dozen of other convicts kept at Colony No. 7 (also known as IK-7) were questioned on the facts of violence applied by colony staff," Pavel Chikov, a lawyer and a HRC member, wrote on the Twitter.
The office of the Ombudsperson receives complaints from inmates about illegal methods applied to them by jail staff, which evidences an unsafe situation in this sphere, said Tatiana Moskalkova, the current Russian Ombudsperson.
