Relatives of missing Dagestanis blame law enforcers for inaction

Participants of the rally in Makhachkala have stated that there is no answer from power agents about the whereabouts of their missing relatives-residents of Dagestan; they called on state officials and law enforcers to obey the law, and on the republic's women to unite around the problem of kidnappings and extrajudicial executions.

On October 4 it became known that relatives of Gashim Uzdanov, Pakhrudin Makhaev, Islam Magomedov and Shamil Djamalutdinov appealed to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial". Starting from October 5, they kept holding actions in Makhachkala, demanding from the authorities to reveal the whereabouts of their relatives who went missing on September 27.

Today, the action was about 50 people strong, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. The participating women stated power agents' inaction in searching their missing children.

Umraikha Gasanova, the mother of the missing Islam Magomedov, has expressed her doubts that the two cars, in which her son and his friends were travelling, could disappear without traces.

The protesters were visited by Renat Djamaludinov, the deputy head of the division for interacting with law enforcement bodies. He said that criminal cases had been opened in connection with the disappearance of their relatives; and they are looked for.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that relatives of the missing Dagestanis complained about pressure by power agents.
