Relatives of missing Dagestanis fail to find out their fate from Chechen power agents

After a special operation in the Gudermes District of Chechnya, where on October 9 eight persons were killed, relatives of Gashim Uzdanov and Islam Magomedov, who had disappeared in Dagestan, went to Chechnya for identification of the bodies. However, it turned out that the bodies had not been identified yet; and relatives returned home empty-handed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that relatives of missing Dagestanis have been holding pickets in the central square of Makhachkala for five days, demanding from the authorities to inform them about the whereabouts of their relatives.

On October 9, eight suspected militants were killed, and four policemen were wounded in a shootout on a highway in the Gudermes District of Chechnya. One of the casualties was pre-identified as Ali Demilkhanov, 33, a militant leader. On October 10, a source from the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) revealed that the killed militants had arrived to Chechnya from Dagestan.

"My husband went to Gudermes; we had information that our missing children may be among those killed in the special operation conducted in Chechnya. However, Chechen power agents gave him no information about the casualties," Aida Uzdanova, the mother of the missing Gashim Uzdanov, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"They said that the bodies were badly damaged by fire; and, therefore, it will be very difficult to identify them," she said.

Yakhsat Magomedova, the wife of the missing Islam Magomedov, also confirmed the fact that she had failed to learn anything in Chechnya.

"My mother-in-law went to Gudermes, to the place of the special operations, but she learnt no details about Islam or other missing persons, or about those killed in the operation. Chechen law enforcers told her that only teeth remained from the casualties; and they'd identify bodies by the teeth," Yakhsat Magomedova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to her story, Chechen power agents told that the expertise results would be known at least in 10 days.
