Russian Council of Muftis suggests holding all-Russian discussion of Grozny fatwa

The final document of the Islamic Conference held in Grozny reflects the actual situation of some regions of Northern Caucasus, and the approval of the fatwa needs all-Russian discussion. This was announced by the Russian Council of Muftis.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 27, following the outcome of the Islamic Conference on the topic "The followers of the Sunnah: who are they?", participants of the conference adopted a fatwa, which recognized only followers of the Sufi tariqat as the true Muslims. The fatwa treats supporters of Salafism as dangerous separatists. On September 26, the Russian Council of Muftis criticized the fatwa of Grozny.

The official reply of the Russian Council of Muftis (RCM) to Salakh Mezhiev, the Mufti of Chechnya, who asked to consider the possibility of signing the fatwa adopted in Grozny, reported that the documents, applying for the status of common validity, could not be subjected to unambiguous estimates.

"Discussion on them may not involve only two parties, but it should be of all-Russian nature," states the document signed by Ravil Gainutdin, the chairman of the Russian Council of Muftis, and published on the RCM's website on September 29.

Besides, the RCM's chairman has expressed his concern over an attempt to focus on a single concept of Islam. Ravil Gainutdin has noted that "the fatwa adopted at the conference in Grozny reflected primarily only the actual situation in some regions of Northern Caucasus."
