In Baku, residents claim being forced to leave their apartments

Residents of the Bakuvillage of Garachukhur claim that the local authorities force them to leave their apartments under the pretext of an emergency condition of the houses. Meanwhile, the houses are intentionally brought to dilapidation.

The message reporting on the authorities' intention to evict several families from their houses in the Baku village came to the SMS-service of the "Caucasian Knot". "In Baku, ... in No. 36 inMekhbalyev Street, the roof of the house has been dismantled... They threaten to evict us with the help of the police," wrote the author of the SMS-message.

Two-storey buildings in No. 34 and No. 36 inAkhmed   Mekhbalyev Street in the village of Garachukhur are a subject to demolition. In total, those buildings have 16 apartments: eight apartments in each building.

"They literally force us to leave our apartments. The authorities of the Surakhani District refuse to pay compensation to us, provided by the law. They use illegal methods to force us to move out of our houses. On September 5, the roof of our house was dismantled by the order issued by the head of the Surakhani District. This is a gross violation of the safety regulations. In recent days, Baku is hit by heavy rains. Ceiling in an apartment on the second floor got wet," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told on September 29 by Lyudmila Zlobina, one of the tenants of the house, a citizen of Russia.

According to the woman, repeated appeals to all public institutions of the Azerbaijani authorities gave no results.

"The authorities of the district executive committee openly threaten to call the police to throw us in the streets, to turn off the supply of electricity and gas," noted Lyudmila Zlobina.
