Colony administration let oppositionist Mamed Ibragim attend father's commemoration

Azerbaijani oppositionist Mamed Ibragim, who is serving a prison sentence and claims fraud in his case, has been granted a short leave to attend a memorial ceremony for his father. Meanwhile, earlier, he had not been granted a leave to attend his father's funeral.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Mamed Ibragim, the advisor to the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was detained on September 30, 2015. Mikail Guliev claimed that Mamed Ibragim had allegedly beaten him. On March 15, the court sentenced Mamed Ibragim to three years of imprisonment on the charge of disorderly conduct.

The Mamed Ibragim's father died on September 3, reported advocate Yalchin Imanov. He has also added that they filed a cassation appeal to the Supreme Court (SC) of Azerbaijan against the decision of the Court of Appeal.

Besides, the defence has also filed a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

According to Mamed Ibragim himself, he feels fine and does not complain about conditions of detention in the penal colony.

Mamed Ibrahim is included in the list of Azerbaijani political prisoners compiled by local human rights defenders, journalists, advocates, and other activists.
