"Nida" activists Turgut Gambar and Ismi Shakhzade detained in Baku

In Baku, Turgut Gambar and Ismi Shakhzade, members of the board of the youth movement "Nida", have been detained today. The place of their detention has not been reported yet.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been told by Ulvi Gasanli, a member of the board of the movement "Nida", that today, activists have come to the building of the Baku Court of Appeal (BCA), which was to consider the appeal filed by their colleague Elgiz Gakhramanov against his arrest. On August 12, Elgiz Gakhramanov was arrested on the charge of drug possession.

"We were standing in front of the BCA building. At about 11:45 a.m., Turgut was approached by men in civilian clothes. They introduced themselves as staff members of the Chief Police Department for the City of Baku and demanded from Turgut go with them. Advocate Nemat Kerimli was near, and he offered to go with them. However, the men in civilian clothes have rejected his proposal. They forced Turgut into a usual (not police) passenger car and took him away to some unknown destination. At present, we are going to the City Police to find out the Turgut's fate," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Ulvi Gasanli.

Meanwhile, according to him, the policemen detained Ismi Shakhzade, an activist of the movement "Nida", a freelance photographer, who was trying to shoot the Turgut Gambar's detention. Moreover, the policemen seized the mobile phone from freelance journalist Islam Shakhili when he was shooting the incident.
