Two natives of Caucasus killed while attacking DPS checkpoint in Moscow Region

Two men involved in the attack on a checkpoint of the road-and-patrol service (known as DPS) in the Moscow Region were killed, and two policemen were seriously injured. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). According to the law enforcement bodies, the killed men were natives of the Caucasus. They have been already identified.

According to the police, on August 17, two unidentified men with axes attacked a police checkpoint at the 20th kilometer of the Scholkovo highway in the vicinity of Balashikha. Police Captain Mikhail Balakin was the first who got a severe injury by an axe. Then, the attackers seized his service weapon and opened fire on the DPS checkpoint. As a result of the shelling, Police Lieutenant Nikolai Drozd got a severe gunshot wound.

Police Lieutenant Valery Pankov shot and killed one of the attackers at the place and wounded another criminal. During the detention, the wounded attacker rendered armed resistance and was killed by return fire, reported the website of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) on August 17.

Policemen Mikhail Balakin and Nikolai Drozd were hospitalized in serious condition.

The DPS checkpoint was attacked by natives of the Caucasus, the RIA "Novosti" reports with reference to a source from the law enforcement bodies.

According to the source, not far from the DPS checkpoint, law enforcers found personal belongings and passports of the killed attackers. According to the preliminary information, they were identified as 21-year-old Usman Murdalov and 18-year-old Sulim Israilov, natives of the Achkhoi-Martan District of Chechnya. Law enforcers are verifying the version of the attackers' involvement in illegal armed formations (IAFs), the "Kommersant" reports today.
