Murat Aguzarov to challenge refusal of registration for State Duma elections

Tomorrow, lawyers of Murat Aguzarov, a brother of Tamerlan Aguzarov, the former leader of North Ossetia, intend to complain to the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Russia about the refusal to register their client as a candidate to the State Duma.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Murat Aguzarov was listed as a candidate to the State Duma as a self-nominee. Today, the Election Commission of North Ossetia has refused him in registration with reference to irregularities in the documents submitted by him.

Lawyer Irina Lokshina has reported that the Election Commission was verifying the signature lists with irregularities filed by Murat Aguzarov. According to the lawyer, when a candidate is handed over the final protocol of the verification of signatures, the commission has the right to get the protocols of the verification of signature lists with indications why a signature is recognized null and void. However, the verification protocols have not been provided to them.

Olga Markova, the CEC secretary, has noted that at present, staff members of the Election Commission are engaged in drawing up the verification protocol.

According to Murat Aguzarov himself, the CEC database for verification of signatures needs to be updated. The candidate's lawyers also claim that they can prove the authenticity of the signatures submitted.

It should be noted that today, Magomed Dibirov, the chief of the Election Commission of Dagestan, has also reported on withdrawal of seven out of 22 candidates to the State Duma because of invalid signatures in support of the candidates.
