Chechen preacher publicly repents for criticizing Ramzan Kadyrov

Preacher Shoip Tutaev, who left Chechnya abroad and criticized Ramzan Kadyrov for the oppression of believers, returned home. At the meeting with the Chechen leader, Shoip Tutaev has publicly renounced his beliefs. According to interviewed residents of Chechnya, Shoip Tutaev did that under pressure.

On August 10, the "Grozny" TV Channel showed the story of the return to Chechnya of Shoip Tutaev, also well-known as Shoip-Mullah. Theologians of Chechnya also met family members of Shoip Tutaev in the village of Germenchuk of the Shali District, and his relatives promised "to prevent further similar offenses," the TV news reports.

At both meetings, Shoip Tutaev has claimed that he "preached without the required religious knowledge and thus caused the dissemination of the ideas that did not conform to the traditional concept of Islam."

According to a staff member of the Chechen Muftiate, Ramzan Kadyrov gave Shoip Tutaev "a chance to get back on the right path."

It was quite expected that one more critic of the Chechen authorities publicly recognizes the fallacy of his views, claims a leader of a local NGO.

According to the source, the Chechen authorities have a lot of leverages to force a person to renounce his or her beliefs.
