Residents of Tskhinvali complain about insufficient assistance after 2008 war
Despite eight years passed after the events of August 2008 in South Ossetia, Tskhinvali still has signs of the past war. Local residents complain about the fact that after the hostilities, not all people were able to get assistance from the authorities after the combat actions.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the day of August 8 marks eight years passed since the outbreak of hostilities between Georgia and South Ossetia, which were called the "five-day war" and the "August conflict".
In North and South Ossetia, people held actions to pay tribute to the memory of the victims. The events in Tskhinvali were attended by relatives of the killed Russian soldiers.
Many residents of Tskhinvali speak with tears in their eyes about their relatives, who fell victim to the war. They also mention how they were sheltered in basements.
The residents of Tskhinvali report that the most part of the destroyed infrastructure is restored; however, there are still signs of the war here and there.
According to Emma Gagloeva, a resident of Tskhinvali, the humanitarian assistance directed to their city was not always received by the locals.
In Tskhinvali, there are still un-restored houses damaged during the war.
During the conflict of 2008, about 3500 houses were damaged in South Ossetia.
The residents of Tskhinvali also speak about the acts of bravery committed by their relatives and friends during the events of 2008. They also note that the heroes often do not get assistance from the authorities.
