Dunja Mijatovic concerned over freedom of expression in South Caucasus

Today, at the 13th OSCE South Caucasus Media Conference held in Tbilisi, Dunja Mijatovic, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, has expressed her regret about the absence at the conference of journalist Khadija Ismayilova. Besides, Dunja Mijatovic has also announced her concern over the situation with freedom of speech in the countries of South Caucasus.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 1-5, Tbilisi hosted the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE.

"Khadija Ismayilova is released, but she is not free to come here and take part in the conference," said Dunja Mijatovic.

The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media has also expressed her concern over the cases of violence used against journalists in South Caucasus. Dunja Mijatovic has announced the problem of restrictions on freedom of expression and manifestation of bias in journalism.

"It is time when we should gradually move from Tbilisi to Yerevan and Baku," stated the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media as quoted by the website "Aysor.am".

The Forum in Tbilisi will last two days. It brought together more than 70 journalists from Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan. Besides, the forum is also attended by government officials, experts, and members of international organizations, the website "Armenpress" reports.
