Emergency mode introduced in 11 districts of Chechnya

In Chechnya, rescue and emergency services are working in emergency mode. They are engaged in elimination of the effects of prolonged heavy rains that partially paralyzed traffic in the republic.

On June 9, a major landslide caused by heavy rains occurred in the village of Tsa-Vedeno of the Vedeno District of Chechnya. According to the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE), 22 private houses were completely destroyed, and other 23 were damaged. The emergency mode was introduced in the Vedeno District. In the evening of June 9, in the Shali District, between the villages of Chiri-Yurt and Starye Atagi, a bridge over the Argun River collapsed a result of undermining of its supports.

The emergency mode has been introduced in 11 districts of Chechnya, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by an official of the Russian MfE's Chief Department for Chechnya.

According to the MfE, a sharp rise in the water level in the rivers is registered, and in some places, the water level exceeded three meters. "That resulted in the flooding of low-lying terrain in several villages of the Urus-Martan and Shali Districts, as well as in the damage and destruction of bridges. In particular, in the village of Goity, water flooded 15 yards, in the village of Agishty of the Shali District, 60 houses were flooded," reported the MfE's official.

An official of the district administration has described the situation as "severe." He has noted that the rescue and emergency services are working in emergency mode.
