AI demands to release Darya Polyudova

Darya Polyudova, who was found by the Krasnodar court guilty of inciting separatism and extremism, was prosecuted for the peaceful exercise of her right to freedom of expression. This was stated by the "Amnesty International" (AI). The human rights organization has recognized Darya Polyudova a "prisoner of conscience".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in December 2015, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Krasnodar found Darya Polyudova guilty of public calls for separatism and extremism. The activist was sentenced to two years of imprisonment in a penal settlement-colony. On March 30, the Krasnodar Regional Court dismissed the appeal filed by Darya Polyudova against the sentence. Thus, the decision of the Oktyabrsky District Court of Krasnodar has entered into force.

The AI has expressed its disagreement with the decisions of the courts in the case against Darya Polyudova.

In its statement, the AI notes that the charges against the activist are connected with her publications in a social network, in which she was peacefully expressing her opinion.

"Her detention in custody means that Darya Polyudova is a 'prisoner of conscience', and the AI calls on for the immediate and unconditional release of the activist," declares the statement of the AI, posted on its website.
