In Nagorno-Karabakh, all national parties support constitutional reforms

On March 21, Bako Saakyan, President of Nagorno-Karabakh, signed a decree to establish a commission on constitutional reforms. The major political forces of Nagorno-Karabakh have supported the step.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in early February, the Nagorno-Karabakh National Assembly discussed the possibility of constitutional reforms.

In late 2015, Araik Arutyunyan, Prime Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh, has announced that the constitutional reforms suppose to reform of the judiciary and to increase the role of the permanent parliament.

On February 23, political parties of Nagorno-Karabakh sent a letter to Bako Saakyan and requested him to establish a commission on constitutional reforms, reports an officer of the press service of the presidential administration. Ashot Ghulyan, Chairman of the Nagorno-Karabakh National Assembly, has been approved to the post of the commission chairman.

The commission is instructed to submit to the President the concept of the republic's constitutional reforms until May 1, 2016, and in the case is the concept is approved to submit to the President its project until September 10, 2016.

Earlier, at their meetings, members of the "Free Motherland" and the Democratic Party of Artsakh have stated that "the constitutional reforms are necessary for the evolution of the country."

According to Karen Ogandjanyan, Chairman of the Republican Party of Nagorno-Karabakh, the coordinator of the Nagorno-Karabakh Committee "Helsinki Initiative-92", his colleagues believe that "the political field of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh should be united, and it will facilitate the solution of many problems, especially in the socio-economic sphere."
