Residents of Chechnya report cancellation of pro-Kadyrov rally

Chechen authorities have abandoned the idea to hold on March 6 a large-scale rally in support of Ramzan Kadyrov in Grozny, although they had initially planned the action, and students were obliged to visit it, representatives of educational institutions of the republic told the "Caucasian Knot".

The second Ramzan Kadyrov's term at the post of the Chechen leader expires on April 5. In February, he repeatedly announced that he had no desire to continue leading the republic, and the Ramzan Kadyrov's subordinates responded by calls to stay their "padishah", made on behalf of the Muslims and the Chechen people.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that initially the rally in support of the head of Chechnya had been scheduled for February 28, but then was postponed to March 6. Chechen authorities denied this information, saying that there were no plans to hold a rally on March 6.

"There'll be no rally in Grozny, at least on March 6; it was cancelled for 'uselessness'," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by an employee of one of Chechen ministries, who introduced himself as Rizvan. According to his version, the republic is actively discussing the information made public on March 2 by the RBC (RosBiznesConsulting) that the Kremlin had already decided in principle to extend the powers of Ramzan Kadyrov in the post of the head of Chechnya.

"The rally in Grozny, pre-scheduled for March 6, is cancelled; and all received a command to 'retreat'' while earlier we all were instructed to prepare banners and posters in support of Ramzan with his photos; but now, for some reasons, everything is cancelled," the head of one of educational institutions of Grozny told the "Caucasian Knot".
