Experts: reasons of brawl in Borzoi are concealed by Chechen authorities

The Chechen police had to prevent a fight in a military unit of Borzoi; while the absence of any data that the incident is being investigated by the military prosecutor's office indicates the unwillingness of the Chechen authorities to openly discuss the background of the incident, said the experts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 25 a mass brawl occurred in the territory of a military unit stationed in the village of Borzoi, Shatoy District of Chechnya. According to locals, it was preceded by beating on February 24 a young Chechen soldier-recruiter by group of militaries. The office of the Military Commandant of Chechnya and the republic's authorities insist on the domestic background of the incident and absence of any interethnic hostility motives in it.

Even if the brawl happened on the domestic ground, we still see here the inaction of law enforcers and investigators, says Alexander Perendjiev, an expert of the Association of Independent Military Political Scientists, who himself took his military service in Borzoi in 2000-2001.

The fight took place in the territory of a military facility, therefore, it should have been prevented by the military police, and the investigation into it should have been carried out by the military prosecutor's office, Mr Perendjiev has emphasized in his comment to the "Caucasian Knot", not excluding that in Chechnya even the departments, subordinated to the federal power, may be dependent on and controlled by the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov.

"The maintenance of the order in the union is on the garrison commander; and still we can see neither his reaction, no reaction of the military prosecutor and the chief of the military police. A question arises on why all these people are silent about the check and inquiry," Alexander Perendjiev gave his comment on the brawl in Borzoi, noting that maybe the Kremlin is also satisfied with the situation, once no action is taken.

Konstantin Sivkov, Doctor of Military Sciences and Vice-President of the Academy of Geopolitical Problems, has also pointed out, in his comment on the incident in the military unit of Borzoi, to "the sluggishness of law enforcers, who were unable to prevent the brawl."

Whatever the immediate causes of the fight, "we can state one thing: there was an interethnic brawl – Russians against Chechens; the military unit has a pronounced 'clannish' structure; and the command of the unit fails to wage a successful struggle with the problems," Mr Sivkov said to the "Caucasian Knot".
