Wounded policewoman hospitalized in Telavi

A group of doctors has flown by helicopter from Tbilisi to Telavi to provide aid to a wounded policewoman.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today an unidentified man opened fire on policemen in the yard of the police building in the city of Telavi. One policeman was killed and the above policewoman was seriously wounded.

To provide help to the wounded policewoman, named Maia Djavakhishvili, a group of doctors flew from Tbilisi to Telavi by helicopter, said the Interior Minister Georgi Mgebrishvili, who visited the wounded woman at the hospital. According to his story, Maia Djavakhishvili is in the gravest condition.

Mgebrishvili told about the detention of a 19-year-old Sandro Metreveli, from whom a hunting rifle was confiscated as evidence.

According to his version, the detainee, who lives near the police building, opened fired not in the police yard, but from the territory of his own household, the "InterPressNews" reports.

In connection with the murder of the policeman, all the New Year activities, pre-planned in the city, have been cancelled, said Irakli Shiolashvili, Governor of the Kakheti Territory. He noted that "the slain policeman was a highly respected person," the TASS reports.
