Volgograd: tenants of collapsed house demand from authorities to build new house for them

In Volgograd, the terms of accommodation of the tenants of the residential building destroyed by the explosion do not correspond to the situation on the real estate market. This opinion was expressed by the tenants of the collapsed building. They have sent a letter to the Russian President and the Governor of the Volgograd Region with a proposal not to provide them with temporary accommodation and instead direct the saved funds to the early construction of a new residential building on the place of their collapsed house.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 20, an explosion occurred in No. 47 in Cosmonauts Street in Volgograd. As a result, a block of the building has collapsed. The bodies of four persons were found; and rescue team is searching for the fifth body. Experts have recognized the residential building as dilapidated and subjected to demolition.

Today, about 90 tenants of the collapsed building have gathered at the administration of the Dzerzhinsky District of Volgograd. They have demanded to provide them with "an equivalent accommodation in the same area."

According to Lyudmila Vergizova, Chair of the Committee on housing policy of the Volgograd administration, the authorities have already developed "a project on rent of housing."

In the course of the meeting, the tenants have announced the creation of the public organization "Tragedy in No. 47 in Cosmonauts Street".

According to the authors of the appeal, the house became dilapidated "because of the negligence of staff employees of the administration of the Dzerzhinsky District", who were repeatedly addressed with complaints about improper use of one of the apartments and storage of explosives there. The people ask the authorities to consider the possibility to demolish the house and then build on its place a new residential building at the expense of budget funds and investments.
