US authorities impose sanctions against IS unit in Northern Caucasus

Today, according to the US Treasury, the US authorities have imposed sanctions against 29 individuals and entities affiliated with the grouping "Islamic State" (IS), recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia, the USA, Turkey, and a number of other countries. The list of sanctions also includes the IS unit in Northern Caucasus and three citizens of Russia, including Rustam Asilderov, a suspected leader of the IS in Northern Caucasus.

"On September 2, 2015, the organization 'Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant Caucasus' Province (ISIL-CP) claimed responsibility for the attack on the Russian military base in Magaramkent, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of a number of Russian citizens," reports the statement, posted on the website of the US State Department.

On September 2, the website of the SITE Intelligence Group published the information about the successful attack of the militants of the "Islamic State", recognized as a terrorist organization, on the Russian military barracks near the village of Magaramkent. Meanwhile, sources from the law enforcement bodies and local residents did not confirm the information about the attack on Russian military men in the Magaramkent District of Dagestan.

The statements made by the US State Department and the US Treasury also report that the sanctions are imposed on Russian citizens Tarkhan Gaziev, Shamil Ismailov, and Rustam Asilderov. Meanwhile, according to the US authorities, Tarkhan Gaziev and Shamil Ismailov are in the territory of Syria, and they are taking part in the hostilities on the side of the IS.
